                            Welcome to ReadiShield

On February 14th, 2018 an unstable individual entered Stoneman Douglas High School in Broward County Florida and killed 17 individuals and injured several more. Like other schools across the country, I along with my superintendent, met with local law enforcement in the days following to discuss what we could do to ensure that nothing similar happens to our students.

From that meeting, I learned that the shooter entered the school and took out windows in the lock classroom doors and was then able to kill 6 of the 17 individuals in these locked classrooms.  In addition, another 12 were shot in classrooms and survived their wounds.   Just because they are able to make it inside a locked classrooms they are not safe and can still become a victim.

It became very apparent from this meeting and researching other school shootings, that the glass window in the door is the weakest point of gaining access into a locked classroom (even just reaching the gun inside to shoot victims without needing to open the door its self).   This is the genesis for developing ReadiShield.
Schools are designed to be open and inviting, not like a prison to keep people in and others out. Nearly all classroom doors have some kind of window in them.  These windows allow light in and out, allow teachers to see who may be at their door and to allow administrators to walk the halls and look in classrooms without disturbing the class.

It be came apparent from our research, that windows are the weakest security point of a classroom door, this is when we began to think of ways to allow teachers to still use their windows for the intended purpose and at the same time make it more difficult for an intruder to enter and/or use that space to use a weapon inside the locked classroom.  Our solution is ReadiShield;  it can be custom manufactured to fit any size door window in 4 different thicknesses of galvanized steel; 14 Gauge (5/64"), 10 Gauge (1/8"), 7 Gauge (3/16"), or 3 Gauge (1/4").

Shooting in May 2018

Reporter: Is there a part of you that was like this isn't real,  this would not happen in my school?
Student: No, there wasn't.
Reporter:  Why So?
Student:  It has been happening every where, I felt, I've always kind of felt like eventually it was going to happen here to.
